Three Ways to Help!
Freedom Voice sent Maibort Petit to document the situation and assist with the humanitarian effort. An avid dog-lover as well as a lover of freedom, Maibort was compelled to help with the Ukrainian conflict and help save the animals along the way. She made her way to Poland and worked alongside the Centaurus Foundation to help.
Centaurus Foundation
Centaurus Foundation is an organization founded in 2006 that specializes in rescuing dogs, cats, horses, and other farm animals.
They provide first aid, microchips, and proper documentation for the rescued animals to get them somewhere where they will be safe and cared for.
They also send volunteer convoys into Ukraine to deliver supplies for the animals to the shelters there while taking the overflow of animals from shelters that don't have space.
Since the beginning of the war, they’ve rescued over 450 animals (mostly dogs) and also stay in constant contact with both Polish and other major European adoption agencies after quarantining the animals for 3 weeks.
Currently, they are seeking donations in the form of kennel cages, dog and cat food, veterinary or medicinal cat or dog food, vaccinations, microchips, and blank passports to help give more animals proper documentation to expedite their process into a happy and healthy home.

Photographer Thomas Machowicz captured animal rescue efforts from the main refugee/supply route. Supplies are sent from Poland to western Ukraine and animals are rescued from danger in eastern Ukraine and brought back to Poland. Of course, rescue groups also help evacuate people, and a few of the photographs Thomas shared with us present an animal rescuer, Alexandra, who was evacuated from Lviv along with her children and dogs. Whether it's animal rescue, supply distribution, or documenting it all, the humanitarian effort in such a difficult time for Ukraine is an incredibly strong one.
